First, wow. How many hours have I invested in what I call to friends my blog about “stupid shit on the internet”? Hundreds. Probably not a thousand yet, but these thoughts of numbers remind me of humankind’s fascination with round numbers, like 4,000. Or one hundred, one thousand or one million.
Remember the so-called new millenium? It always bugged me that most everyone celebrated its change on New Year’s 1999-2000. But in case you missed it, the year 2000 was actually the last year of the 2nd millenium on the Gregorian calendar. There is no year zero, so the first millenium is 1 AD-1000 AD (when did we switch to BCE again? I still like AD).. the second millenium, where—if you’re still reading this is the millenium in which you most likely spent most of your time—is the years 1001-2000. And now here we are in the third millenium, the 21st centrury in 2010. I think the confusion is that popular culture runs on the decade, which we run from say, 1980-1989. It aligns with the way we say the twenties or the seventies. I am thinking that this now-past decade has been collectively agreed to be called the aughts.. but what are we entering now, the teens? Ugh.
Congrats Paul that’s awesome

LA is a great city to bike, great views and even better weather. There is one problem tho and that is its lack of bike lanes. We need to pressure our local government to provide more bike lanes to make it safer for people to ride. I know numerous people including myself that have been hit by cars…
